I believe this is the best variation of the Petroff defense and i have used it many times to a very nice win. there is no way black can save the Knight.

something like this?

isn't white better? does this line have a name?

For some reason there seems to be a viewpoint that an opening isn't interesting unless it drops a pawn. I can't see any possible reason 3...Nc6 would be better 3...d6

The thing about 3,Nxe5 Nc6 is that there is no point. Compare it to 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. O-O Nxe4 5. Nc3 Nxc3 6. dxc3 when Black has to play 6...f6 if he wants to hold onto the pawn. 6...Be7 7. Qd5 O-O 8. Nxe5 Nxe5 9. Qxe5 Bf6 is nothing.

So, 5. Nc3 Bc5 6. h3, the only way that this could have meaning is if Black puts his knight on g4, Now what?

Stafford gambit. Ver aggressive and fun.Look it up on Youtube

Here's one, Black to move. Find the move that Kramnik was criticized for missing. Obviously using a computer misses the point.

Basic rule is that one shoudl move knight before bishop. On concrete side Nf3 fight for central control more than Bc4 does. Difference is minimal

I don't think it's that minimal, black can get in d5 quite quickly against the Bishop's Opening.

if you REALLY want wins, play ...f5 gambits! rousseau accepted is slaughter for white. 4.d3 is almost as common and has about = stats, but is very complicated. i'm up to 700+ lines of theory for the exd5 rousseau and still am a mile away from finishing the 4.d3 luccini, andhavent even gotten to the 4.d5 reversed falkbeer, a couple other 4th moves and the REST of my repertoir3 for 3.Bb5 and 3.d4!

looking into the petroff main line, playing symmetry as was suggested to me, i see breaking after Bf4 or Bg5 gives black NICE winning stats. I was thinking of looking into it as a shorcut to get the heck out of scandinavia

ANY opening that allows white to play e5 is an abomination to me. that's why I hate the scandinavian

someone questioned my mentioning it as drawish, but I see a wiki saying just that. if an endgame is drawish... i'll LOSE IT because i hate endgames and their positional demands with a passion. i'd rather streetfight dirty and have the game over one way or the other in 30 moves or less myself.
