I think so, but i haven't seen any games played with that move.

Well it blocks the checkmate threat and it attacks the knight.

You don't even have to play Qh5+. Nxe4 is a mistake, looes at least a pawn.

Thats a good point

I've seen 3...Nxe4 tried as a gambit before. Like this:

Doesn't look to me like black has enough compensation.

Hmmm here is a game I recently played. ( I was white )

I played this game against a friend at my schools chess club. He made a couple of mistakes like Nxe4 but otherwise he played okay.

Hmmm for that first game white could respond with f3 right?

f3 Qh4+

Ahhh I see I guess Qf3 then...

Nah Black is just losing there. That's a really old trap.

AnthonyCG I don't see how black is losing there after QxQ...neither side has any pieces on the board.

Wow a pawn...I wouldn't call that losing...

That's an exaggeration. At least this Chinese "patzer" has/had a different opinion:

He did get beat pretty badly there, for sure, but if a player of his caliber is willing to pick this line up in that situation (FIDE Wch KO) then I don't think it is correct to say black loses right out of the opening.

That said, my guess is Ni Hua had some novelty prepared, but didn't have the chance to show it in this game. I don't see any other reason he'd go for an inferior line like this one.

Ahh thanks for the post...

Today its seems like white cant find the way to get advantage in this opening so this is good one

I don't like that variation as much...
