Pick the side with the advantage

Dubious or not? If you could pick from either side to play, white or black, which would it be?

Pick first then investigate below.

If you state your pick I will edit the survey results into this first post.

See here if you chose "correctly". Sample game. Your results may vary Smile. I suggest if the players were not familiar with the opening more would win from the "wrong" side.

Familiar with the opening - White: 1  Black: 2

Not familiar with the opening - White: 0  Black: 2

Good old double muzio, I'd take the white side any day

I think black should be winning, but he must play very accurately. In a fast game, say 20 minutes or less per side, I would probably take my chances with white. In a really long game though where there is alot of time to calculate and work things out I am not so sure. With two peices up I feel black must be in good shape.

Well this is easy. :).  This is the Double Muzio gambit and was refuted some time ago.  Black wins with accurate play.

I would rather play as black. This looks a lot like a variation in the Fried Liver Attack in which a lot of people prefer playing as white even though black is up a minor piece. I prefer black here and in the Fried Liver.

After 1... Kxf7 black is up two minor pieces. White can win a pawn with Qxf4+ but after 2. Qxf4+ Qxf4 3. Rxf4+ Nf6 black has a clear advantage. Other options for white include normal developing moves. These give white a positional advantage as black is clearly underdeveloped, but the material loss wasn't worth it.

Except that isn't the point of the gambit, proper countinuation after 1...Kxf7 is 2.d4 Qxd4+ 3.Be3 Qf6 4.Bxf4 and black will be checkmated if he slips up

Chess Informant's ECO (Book C fourth edition) lists the quality of the position as undetermined; it has yet to be worked out who is realy winning

"Proper continuation" for who?  White would love that line, I'm sure.  Black, however, should play Kxf7 d4 Qf5 instead, which significantly outscores White.
