Playing the French as white

I've only been playing chess for 3 months. I'm 950 rated and a noob. What I want to know is whether or not the French Defence is a viable opening with the white pieces. It's my favorite opening as black and I haven't found an opening for White that I really enjoy. Instead of taking hours scouring the internet for answers I thought I would start here. Is there any specific glaring reason not to play it? I searched a tiny bit on the internet and didn't find one game or info on using the French as white.

Thank you :3

Play KIA or 2.Qe2 :)

Those are quite easy to play

a6 is sometimes a usefull move in the french. So 1. a3!! d5 2. d3 e5 3. e4 gives a superior french. Probably just equal, but a french

Playing the French with opposite colors. 1. e4 2. d3 or something similar to get the basic structure

But the problem is that you have to be prepared for other ideas for Black as well -it is possible that he plays some sort of D5 openings and you cannot really play French then

Ok. Thanks guys, I'll just stick to the Kings Indian for now :)

Try a Queen's Gambit.  You can end up with a French-like structure.

You have the e and d pawns in the French position and you played c4 as well.

I almost always play 1... e5 against 1. e3 and never hesitate to enter a reversed French in Blitz after 2. d4 or c4. I think it's the most common moves in that positions as well... from some reason chesslive.de stopped working for me so I can't check, but also 1. e3 is uncommon to begin with... I don't think it's very good for White and Black has many options apart from going into a reversed French, but some of your opponents might play it like that if it's what you're looking for.

It is not a french-like structure.

the play is quite different so I really cannot suggest that for French player just because the structure is same

I would not recommend any such thing. Play e4 or d4 and try to grab some space and initiative. That's how you improve.

Why not?

Just because you play the same moves as you would do in another opening that doesn't become that opening. It is like saying the slav defense and the caro-kann are similiar. The french defense for white would be this.

But it is not good since white does not have the extra-tempo as in most reversed-openings.

On your level it is not important to think about openings, read some beginner books, do tactic and endgame training. Join a chessclub, observe the stronger players and ask questions. Replay games, WCH games
