New players: I'm sure there is some way this is playable at high level, but 1 ... d5 isn't a very good response to 1. e4.

Black must look a little harder to take the initiative from W at the beginning: this is not the move.

There's nothing wrong with 1...d5 if you have some idea of how to follow it up.  Case in point: 

If you're a new player, then the biggest hurdle that you face is being a new player.

I don't think you're going to find any opening where white plays good, mainline moves, where black can wrest away the initiative after two and a half moves.
