Well, at most levels you can win with just about any opening move. I know when he was young, Reuben Fine opened with stuff like h3 and still dominated. He did this to throw the opponent of their game, and I guess that is the purpose of this opening move. And besides, fianchettos aren't that bad

1.b4 (in a live chess or over-the-board chess game) avoids your opponent's opening preparation. It also prepares to develop the queen's bishop (eg, to meet 1.b4 e5 wth 2.Bb2) and the threat of b4-b5 makes ...Nc6 problematic.
I know a Class A player who uses it regularly.
I was recently going through game explorer when I came across the Polish Opening. No matter how much time I spent looking at it though, I could not seem to find a reason to use it. What do all you chess players think about this opening?
