Polish Opening

I was recently going through game explorer when I came across the Polish Opening. No matter how much time I spent looking at it though, I could not seem to find a reason to use it. What do all you chess players think about this opening?

Well, at most levels you can win with just about any opening move. I know when he was young, Reuben Fine opened with stuff like h3 and still dominated. He did this to throw the opponent of their game, and I guess that is the purpose of this opening move. And besides, fianchettos aren't that bad Wink

Well, you can still fianchetto with b3, which at least keeps the pawn close to his brethren.

just played a game with this and destroyed some kid Smile. Thank you for inspiring me.

1.b4 (in a live chess or over-the-board chess game) avoids your opponent's opening preparation. It also prepares to develop the queen's bishop (eg, to meet 1.b4 e5 wth 2.Bb2) and the threat of b4-b5 makes ...Nc6 problematic.

I know a Class A player who uses it regularly.
