Ponziani Opening

You are correct I have little experience in Centaur chess but I do know that the whole line Expertise played was not the best. But I will have to try and analyze the whole 5. d3 line before I can comment much more.

There was another drawing line for Black that with the help of another player who has a very good computer--we figured out how White can obtain an advantge.  Hope to do the same thing here but it will take time...

This is a question:  Are there lines in the Marshall Gambit to the Ruy Lopez which end in a even game?  '[forced lines]

Firebrand played well and outplayed our Expertize.  The variation Expertize chose was not very good and hopefully our guy will study up on the best ways to play after 5. d3  Be6  before he issues another challenge!

Score one  for Firebrand!

Perhaps someone with more knowledge of the opening will start issuing or taking challenges.  That may help to establish the strength of the opening.  Or maybe not.  It really seems this opening is not meant for corresponce type chess between very strong players, or players playing at a high level.  Luckily I am neither; so I get to continue to enjoy this opening.

Expertize has a fair knowledge of the Ponziani, something else led him astray.  But there have been players issuing challenges with very little knowledge of the Ponziani. [and then they get bad results or mixed results]

I calculated as far as 7.Qh4 but didn't see how to win until I got to that position.

Retrograde solution!

Here is a series of moves from a recent Ponziani game. Playing a strong opponent try and find the best moves.  do one diagram and then the continuation is on the next diagram. One point for each move you guess correctly on the first try. Towards the end you will on one move get credit for one of two good moves.  Scoring

Expertise, there are (at least) two winning from whites seventh move.  Which did you see?

Expertise87

I actually didn't calculate out a win until after I played 7.Qh4 but it was the game solution. I'm not sure Rf8 was necessary

ponz111

Expertize the move you are not sure was necessary--there is another move almost as good but not as efficient which you can get 1 point credit for.

kantifields

Bolan, I will play you a 2 game match (1 black, 1 white)

ponz111

Bolan, that team has an in house tournament you can compete in and also they are playing a team match.

kantifields

We need 9 more people in the Ponziani tournament to get it started.

Hey, what do you guys think about this 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3 Nf6 4.d4 Nxe4 5.d5 Bc5!? piece sack line that was mentioned by Emms in "Play the Open Games With Black"?

White is better.  the attack against f2is well parried.

ponz111

Regarding the line with 5. d5  Bc5!? while we did ok in a vote chess game--we were not tested with a new and much better line. So the jury is still

out on that line.  I do not think Kant is aware of the better line.

Any chance of a link to the VC game?
