Ponziani Opening

Actually I would have some stuff useful to him or any other super grandmaster and would take knoners or just a thank you note.

analyzethispgn

im new to chess and have been trying out different possibilities with the ponziani opening.

what are peoples opinions of this variation

ponz111

This is not a Ponziani as the first moves of the Ponziani are

1. e4  e5  2, Nf3  Nc6  3. c3

ponz111

against your set up Black can play 2. d4  or  3. d4 with an equal game

ponz111

I have some secrets to be used if ever a follow up book to Play the Ponziani is published.

However, and on the other hand--I have published a lot of new lines in the forums of Ponziani Power.

Also, I am testing a couple of lines vs a super Centaur as this is written.

kant. sorry,  Mr. Scorner, but it is true.

Firebrand that is not true at all.

On the contary I saw your schedule and proposed to you a way to give you all the time you need or want.

Where do you get in my emails that I am demanding that you respond right away?  I do not think it is appropriate at all to accuse me of something in public [which is probably a misunderstanding] without giving me a chance to respond directly to you.

ponz111

I will ask youi to directly email me so we can hash out what must be a misunderstanding.

Computer assisted chess is good for testing out new ideas in openings.

This we were starting to do [Firebrand and I]  This was for our own

enjoyment and not an exhibition. [which is why I did not annouce it]

I have nothing against players who have the special talent of using chess engines to enhance their play.  They [example, Firebrand have a special talent that others do not have]

There are many types of chess.  Firebrand happens to be very talented in computer assisted chess.

I am sorry that he seems right now to be paranoid as if I could be some kind of threat to him. [if he knew me in person he would see I am no threat]

Where he got the idea that I was making him play blitz chess or play faster than he wanted is beyond me.  I did just the opposite.

I am still waiting to hear from him.

While chess is very competitive--it is not so competitive to me that I would try and do some kind of dirty trick.

Both final positions are obviously better for Black.

There was absolutely nothing I said to FirebrandX asking him to hurry up his moves or to play blitz.  I have the emails.

Firebrand showed me this very hard tournament he was starting. He also talked about his book.  I could see he did not have a whole lot of time to also play the 6 variations of the Ponziani I suggested.  I thought this would be too difficult for him and suggested that for now we drop the 6 variations and I had a solution so that he could play those 6 variations or for that matter any variations he wanted at his own pace.  [does this sound like I was hurrying him up?]

By the way this was susposed to be a personal, not public match, for various reasons. Firebrand is not holding up to this agreement by going public.

Here is what I suggested to him.  We have a Ponziani Analysis Group the purpose of the group is to analyze various lines of the Ponziani using chess engines with human help. To be in the group you must be high expert or master and Ponziani friendly and willing to do the work of analyzing.

I offered FirebrandX the chance to join our group as the one and only "Devil's Advocate"  by this I told him he could go ahead and analyze the variations he started but at his own pace.  He could also challenge any analysis we put up.  He could analyze any variation he wanted.  He would be an honorary member of our group and hold the special status of Devil's Advocate"

How he translated this into I am forcing him to play blitz chess is beyond me?

ponz111

Firebrand is now breaking our agreement by putting up moves that I would not play.  It is not fair just to put up variations and asssume what moves I would play.  Now he has broken our agreement twice.

For the record, I would not play the moves he has put up.

Anyone can put up bad moves and say Oh, this shows the Ponziani is not a good opening.  I am sorry he decided to break our agreement twice now.

I am also, sorry that he did not contact me personally about what started as a misunderstanding and now has changed to where he has broken our agreement twice.

Like you putting up bad moves for Black and claiming Ponziani no worse than Ruy Lopez? :D

But according to kantifields, I was "not ready" for the "dream team"...

Give me a f---ing break.

I suggest you to concentrate on your CC tournaments, instead of wasting time with ponz111 who is interested to promote, himself, Ponziani and his upcoming chess book, instead of finding out the truth.

ponz111

Actually for most people learning the Ruy Lopez takes ten times as long as learning the Ponziani.  So in this sense learning the Ponziani makes sense.

As for practical results they are almost equal and both in the top ten best openings.
