Well looks playable but not much more. 3.d4 is more likely than 3.Bc4 for an unprepared player. I advise playing more "normal" openings and just going with it than playing inferior lines like this.

Some possible downsides could be

  • white's open e file
  • the locked in f8 bishop
  • lack of piece coordination and a plan

If I were white I'd play d4 with a possible d5 push to upset your knight. Instead of developing the bishop to f5 I'd probably put it on g4 to pin the knight and then push e5. However, it seems playable. I'll examine it more later. Smile

I see what you're saying zibbet. i just felt that it was a fun funky opening

Its very interesting, however, I have played the Nimzowitsch Defense (1. e4 nc6) and found that the most common response is 2.d4 followed by d5. My only other criticism would be that most people would generally not take the pawn on f5 because this would increase your centre control. Good post keep 'em coming.

2.d4 d5

3.Nc3 dxe4

4.Nxe4 e5?!

That last move of mine was an invention that my chess coach thought is ok. Play continues:

5.dxe5 Qa5+

6. ANY Qxe5

I really don't like the open f7 square, but it looks ok... too many attacks for White, though. I'm most likely just too risk-less a player, but still...

It seems to me that the only bad move is 3. ... f5.  Other than that, you can play this as a standard Nimzowitsch Defense, Williams Variation.

The f5 move is somewhat championed by IM Doug Root according to the Wikipedia article, but actually at the point in your game, white appears to be up by only 1/2 a pawn.  Black could yet equalize with sharp play.

After 3. Bc4 f5 I would probably not seriously consider 4. exf5 which looks obviously wrong. I think 4. Ng5 should be analyzed in case it refutes you. Otherwise the natural move is 4. d3 and I suspect White is considerably better. Notice the resemblance to the King's Gambit Declined in reverse.
