I've heard it called the greco's defense before, as it was analyzed by Greco back in 1620.

I just ran it through Game Explorer - It came up with King Pawn Game: McConnell Defense (C40)
Game Explorer and the Opening Database are great tools.
Opening play is part of being a better player. If they drop material or fall well behind before their "attack" gets underway they may be lost even if they are better in some other facets. Yes, friends, openings do make a difference. Fischer or Kasparov would tell you that if they opened with h3 or c3 they would beat sub master players still, but would score less often than they were accustomed to with their extensive opening preparation. At lower levels preparation is underutilized: but beginners who learn why some moves are just bad or weak can beat a tactically stronger player right out of the opening before the real fight begins. Also, what is the use in strong endgame ability if the game is over or lost before you reach the endgame? Thinking that it is the player not the opening is wishful thinking that works against unprepared opponents, but if you play weak moves against prepared opponents you only get to practice you defensive skills.

C40 KPG: Greco's Defence when played by black.
C23 when it is played by white on the second move.
Both are crap imo.
Since 1.e4 e5 2.Qf3 has no name, just a number, it is officially declared the Barake !!!!!!! Greco gets the defense.
Is there a name for thr beginner religion/opening 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Qf6?? ? Back home it was known as the Barake, since there was a guy Named Bassem Barake who played 1.e4(e5) 2.Bc4(Bc5) 3.Qf3(Qf6) as White or Black every game if allowed. I have seen 1500+ players (and even a 1600+) play this anti-positional, counter-productive "opening", which may crush beginners, but just blocks their own development and gives the other player a cheap target. That said, it is fairly popular. I've won three games against it this week! (so it is quite popular with me!) Does it have a formal name? If not it is officially to be known as the BARAKE. Remember: Many played Alekhine's before he was born (Including Napoleon!) and many played Bird's before he became its sponsor. So it is not the creator, but who's name gets attached!
