I'm only interested in the White side.
QGD Short-Variation

IMO Black is absolutely safe in the Short, the only issue being that his winning chances are limited.
The Vaganian (7...Be6) is less well charted, and probably worth a try. While it may seem a bit weird to allow white deploying the bishop at d3 "for free", there are a few subtle differences.
"Moves spent" in those formations are not so important as the correct piece positioning under the assymetrical pawn structure. I prefer the Short myself, but this is rather subjective.
As white, I confess I do have a slight problem proving anything tangible. I would also go for the Van Wely plan, especially since one try I gave to the "sophisticated" 6.Qc2 ended up in a fiasco- Black was totally equal just five moves later.
I'm wonder if the Van-Wely-setup [Nf3-h4,pawns on g3,f3, King on f2, Rd1,Bd3] is still the best way to handle the position? Today I took a look in my database, and in recent months strong player preferred to castle long. I remember the game Ding Liren vs Kramnik, in which Ding also castled long, only to spend some moves walking with his king to f2.
What's the plan introduced with 10.h4?
Strong black players now also play more and more 7...Be6 instead of 7...Bg6 with good results.
