Attention all QGA players: Question: There are st least 4 popular moves against 3e4.
Which one do you play and why? I would like to find the one that suits me best.

I looked at 3…b5 on YouTube but it looked a bit too complicated for my taste. I’m not sure but that was my first impression.
I like the Scandinavian that can lead to exchanges and an endgame if that helps to distinguish between what im looking for in response to 3.e4 of the QGA.

Thanks.

e5.

I'm preventing White from playing e4-e5.

It's direct.

If forces matters - just like dxc4.

It reminds of an e4-e5 game, in which the plan is simple.

d4-d5 is ugly due to c6 and due to the solid Nf6 horsery - White's center-pawns would serve Me more than Him - just like in the Sicilian against the Alapin:

He addressed the e4 issue, saying that many GMs left QGA due to it, but that he thinks he came up with an idea that equalizes.

Good luck.

Very nice response with good information. I see what you mean about e5 which is the main line. Looks solid. Thanks.

3… b5 since I have the patience to go through the lines and learn the ideas of the variation. 3… e5 is also solid however, and that is another option.
