Question about Budapest Gambit

You can play the budapest gambit all the way up to 2300 blitz and beyond, so long as you play good chess and not hope chess (i.e. OMG NEW BUDAPEST GAMBIT TRAP DEFEATS EVERYONE)
I can vouch through personal experience.

It's an exciting opening, and works well in club chess. You'll need something against 2.Nf3, though.

I've been using it as my primary defense against d4 for a fair bit and I've been pleasantly surprised. I believe I have around a 60% win rate with it as black.
Just make sure you have a response to every one of white's options after Ng4 (Which isn't that much: Adler (4. Nf3), Rubinstein (4. Bf4), Alekhine (4. e4), and 4. e3). You will almost certainly get a very playable and balanced middlegame, probably equality up until the level where you'll find people who actually know the critical lines (I still haven't gotten there).

Very true. However, if the "threat" of the Budapest can induce 2.Nf3, then it might be worth it. 2.Nf3 cuts out many of white's sharpest systems in a bunch of d-pawn openings. Just for one example, in the KID white can no longer play the Saemisch, the Four Pawns, etc. There are many black defenses which are easier after 2.Nf3.
@FujikoLoveApples (OP) - To somewhat indirectly answer your question, GM Ian Rogers was a great expert on the Budapest. I know he used it mostly against weaker opponents, but he also played it sometimes against GMs, with reasonable results. 3 wins, 1 loss, 7 draws on chessgames.com.

For the Adler did you mean 4. Nf3?

Idk
My blitz rating is somewhere around 1460. I am interested in Budapest Gambit as a response to d4. Just wanted to ask a question that to what level Budapest Defense will work and I'll get a playable, unbalanced Middlegame. and I am only talking about online chess ( 10 min rapid and blitz).
