"Daeth Trap" Engine Tournament

why would u  do a tourny like this with an engine vastly superior to all the other engines? or course critter 1.6  is gonna win. better would have been critter 1.6 deep rybka 4 houdini 2.0 pro and  stockfish 2.2. dont u think ?

Jose0, I am using Fritz 13 which makes it pretty easy to set it up as a tournament. In this case, I made the required opening moves and saved them as a database. Then I used the database as the openings book for the tournament and just let it play all the games out unattended.

I tried that shootout thing you recommended and had it play 4 games.  I started it with 1. d4 Nf6 2. h4.  I also did 2 games with 1. d4 d5 2. h5.  So far, White's score is 1 1/2 and Black has 2 1/2, with no victories for white.  I think Fritz always played Bf5 followed by h6, but like I said, it's just 4 games.

Both lines ended up with the same position.  I can't remember the exact order of the 1. d4 d5 line.

I'm playing him as we chat.....just advised him.....don't know if you gentleman know but ...someone posted that the pawn push h4...was used in the past by yasser seirawan...but had trouble finding any facts behind that...maybe you can shed some light on it for me....

No, the person mentioned Seirawan mentioning it in a book, but didn't say on which turn this early h4 is used or that he has actually used it.

I did hear an occasional chuckle coming from my PC speaker as it ran.

I think Black did not castle as some chess programs are created with the chess fundemental that if the queens have been exchanged you have to attack with the king and rooks and not to castle.

Just my opinion.

If 2... c5! is so strong then surely the reversed variation 1. d4 d5 2. c4!... oh wait.

He said he was using an engine during his games.

I expect to see him on the cheaters list.

naw, I believe he openly admitted that he uses an engine in live chess to bust the cheaters.

He admitted to using it in online games, but I didn't see anythng about live.  It's a real shame that he's arguing the validity of his opening but then admits to using houdini in the online games.

How does one see the known cheaters list?  I remember seeing it before.  Another question is why do they have it?

No, the KG was once highly regarded until people like Fischer busted it.

Well if his name is not on the cheaters list then a couple things could happen since he did come and a said he used unfair tactics against those that also did so in a game.

He could have it just suspended for a while and the other which i have seen them do it allow you to have another name and all your stats are lost. In the first case he would have to say that he would never try to use any unfair tactics in the future.

He clearly was not thinking and just have made adjustments to his opening such as a variation of it. He said it was derived from using and Engine. So it was clear something was overlooked. Change the parameters for his data. Then go back and play that same player and see how it fairs. He spent way to much time arguing and not working on ways to improve it and create variations to maximize the strength of that opening and reduce some of the weaknesses it had when playing it.

I went back to look at all the comments just before he gone. 6 months of debating wasted which everybody has to agree on here. Yet to see him to make attempts to strengthen his point of view. I thought this was going on for like 2-3 months. It takes me 3 months to feel comfortable using and opening competitively against any opponent. Seriously 6 months, he should have 20-30 games against hi-rated players. And established the ability to work over <1600 players in OTB and blitz. By this have a winning streak against them like 25 consecutive wins.

With it being a d4 opening he could have tried to transpose into another d4 opening, maybe that would have help his arguement? Doubt but it would put something on the table. I would have also liked to him face various defenses and seek out players that play those. This one would have been a plus.

Now if he wanted to get it named he could created his own group as a Vote Chess group only and played against various other teams with him vs several players. If he just won half those games it would be a step closer to validate how useful it was in a game. Taken the arguement from if was a good opening to playable in blitz and Vote Chess. Have to say as a Vote Chess player teams are always looking for something interesting to suprise their opponent and  make their opponent inferior.

Energy wasted, his lack of creativity in marketing it is what he never fully addressed. When he made that 200 bet with IM pfren he should have said when he beat him that he has to use his opening and not evalute it. The strategy here is that pfren lost and 2nd people look over the games when pfren played to see if he kept up his half of the deal. In which case IM pfren would have to look for the best move to play. In which case why do all the work when you can get somebody else to do it for you here. Then take those games and make some adjustments to the ones IM pfren played. Marketing!

You're saying he closed his own account?  What about that trash talk about how he wasn't afraid of being banned?
