Refuting the Dragon

I've got good news, you can avoid both the dragon and the najdorf (All in One!) with 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.Bb5+. This line is gaining popularity - Dragon no more!

Yes the Dragon is weak.  Why does anyone want to deal with such a weak d5 square and at best a cramped major piece endgame where black's only real source of counterplay is the c-file (or overextended kingside pawns for a Kg7 to punch out with an ...h6 advance)? Maybe even settle for an opposite color bishop or lightsquared bishop ending if he's lucky!

Like Fischer said he has it down to a science; sac, sac, mate babeh! Woot! ^_^ *dances*  Uh-huh, you know it! :D

i couldn't agree more

Real men play the open sicilian. I am a dragon slayer. Live by the sword, die by the sword kind of a guy. i would never play Bb5+. Shame on you for playing it and avoiding some of the most beautiful chess known to man.

Naka's approach is a fairly unambitious try for a slightly worse, yet safe middlegame.

If you want to look for the nonexisting Dragon "refutation", analyse from here. Black is in some certain trouble, but he has a playable game. After that you also have to analyse Carlsen's 12...a6 (instead of 12...Re8), as well as the slightly dubious 12...Nc4.

Finally, you also have to deal with the safer Topalov approach, 11...Nxd4 12.Bxd4 b5, which is most probably Black's best.

Oh, and real men play pretty much anything they please... your gender definitions are clearly lacking.

Then you just fail to understand some not-so-subtle differences. 12.h4 is not that dangerous. Zenyuk likely forgot the book moves- 19...b4 has been played in 40+ games, and Black is just fine.

On the other hand 12.Kb1 Nc4?! 13.Bxc4 Rxc4 white need not play h4 right now- 14.g4! is extremely annoying to meet.

One particularly nasty line black has yet to properly solve on ICCF is:

Both 22...a5 and 22...Bc6 have run into failure. Likely black will have to try something else on move 16 or 17.

16...e6 is almost certainly losing against best play. Black needs to gamble with 16...Bf6 or 16...Kh7, or avoid 12...Re8 alltogether.

This was played a few days ago at the Greek National Championship. The new move is 26...Bc6, but of course Black is still totally lost.
On the other hand, my feeling is that Black is relatively safe in the Topalov variation. Stephen Ham has switched to that recently, after many failures with 11...Ne5, and he is doing quite well.

If 16...Bf6 is refuted, then the whole 12...Re8 idea is technically refuted as well- after all, the reason Black wastes a move on it is keeping the g7 bishop- right?

What is wrong with the Grand Prix Attack?

or 11...Nxd4 instead of 11...Ne5

The dragon is so easy to refute. Heres another line refuted.

Actually, even 15...Bxf6 is equal I think...15...ef is also just fine but tbh I'm too lazy to check theory atm

Somehow, you are not posting your own games. Probably because you have yet to find someone who plays the Dragon against you without hanging a piece ?

Both 10...Rb8 and 10...Nxd4 11.e5 Nf5 12.ef ef (and probably 12...Bxf6 too) are fine for Black.
