Well what is the point of it, are you going g4 next? Don't you just get a slow version of a Grob?
Reti Opening: Ampel Variation
Hmm, I haven't tried that yet. I'll give it a shot next game. I would like to hear some of the strategy and theory behind it, though.
well, it gives up the center, does get some pieces developed, and prepares a (possible?)) king-side attack. It would depend on whether you could cope with black's space advantage, but if you're up against an experienced player it wouldn't be too hard for them to get a good advantage before move ten.
Thanks for the responses. I assumed this opening was pretty bad since I couldn't find any topics about it on the forums haha. With g4 it does seem like you could get your kingside rook out quickly and attack black's kingside. I guess a disadvantage would be that one can't kingside castle after doing it, but since I greatly prefer queenside castling that isn't a big problem for me.
It's 1. Nf3 d5 2. Rg1.
Is this a terrible opening? I've tried it a few times.
