From what I've heard the Reti can be extremely complex and hypermodern in style - hypermodern is a no no to me for beginners, which I too am a beginner but focusing on classical openings like Ruys have helped me a lot more.

The Reti opening is normally considered a transpositional device to "safer" 1.d4 openings, although pure Reti lines are essentially Indian/Benoni defenses reversed.
It's not exactly an aggressive opening, but it is solid.
The reti is one of the opening i wanted to teach my kids. It looks very simple and easy to learn.
Can anyone share his expertise on the matter. I will be very grateful.
