Honestly, I think both your assumptions are suspect. By the formula win % + 1/2 draw % we can see that the English (1. c4 e5) scores 54% versus 48% for black with the Sicilian (1. e4 c5.) Also, the Dutch was considered a bit unsound and was rarely seen at the top level for a long time.
