Ruy Lopez: Smith Defence

I invented one more opening. :) In fact, gambit!

But this time not in Ruy Lopez but in Sicilian, Snyder.

That's my analysis. If you have a better one then share it! :)

I don't see how the sacrificed pawn was worth the half open e file.  White's e pawn in the sicilian plays an important role of watching over the d5 square.  Especially with the awkward placement of the kings side bishop blocking the d pawn from advancing, it looks as though white would have a hard time organizing an attack due to lack of space.

Dont fear the doubled pawns

The c6 pawn covers the d5 square

Rook controls the half open b file

Bishop has the a6-f1 diaganol

You have the bishop pair

Control of the light squares

Thats quite a haul for a doubled pawn

Chess4001

pretty horrible and not worth 1 pawn. Black still has the pawn center and can equalize soon. You don't even have a pawn in the center and your opponent already developed both knights well. Bd3? sucks as it blocks your own d pawn. really your ideas aren't even worth it. I mean giving up a center pawn just to put your bishop on d3 a horrible square

Of course I prefer Canal Variation (in case I want to avoid 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6/e6/g6) in Sicilian.

OK, back to "Smith defence". All of you must know that I would never play 3...Qf6 in real tournament, just in friendly games. By the way, I play Morphy.
But yesterday I managed win in blitz. OK, opponent blundered but still... It was fun to play that! :)

I once had a "wow i invented a good variation" moment after a random game. Without knowing any theory on the danish i played (as black) 1.e4 e5 2.d4 exd4 3.c3 dxc3 4.Bc4 cxb2 5.Bxb2 d5 (the "bresando variation" i tought for a moment; i was an even worse patzer than I am now at the time, but still i wonder how the tought that such an obvious move could be new crossed my mind) 6.Bxd5 Nf6 7.Bxf7+ Kxf7 8.Qxd8 Bb4+(this simple tactical trick made me feel a genius at the time...in chess those who know very little usually feel very strong Tongue out) 9.Qd2 Bxd2+ 10.Bxd2 with an equal position. Well, in fact it's a good bulletproof defense, pity that Scletcher discovered it roughly a century before i was born Laughing

I had a similar experience in my first OTB tournament.   I started analyzing ...d5 because I did remember that was often the key to Black equalizing in the open game.  I found the same resource and was really proud of myself.  Then I started looking at one of my chess books and realized that I seen the Schlecter defense some months before.  I guess my subconscious had remembered it.  Speaking of Carl Schlecter, he was know as the drawing master.  I remember seeing an annotation of a Schlecter game where he was Black.  1.e4 e5 2.f4 and the annotation was, "Exactly the wrong thing to play against Schlecter as it was likely to rouse him from his usual lethargy.

yes, according to many sources he looked like thinking that winning a chess game was unpolite to the opponent Tongue out A sort of gentleman player who was there for the sake of playing chess and not for winning tournaments. Still he produced some very beautiful games along the way.

Honestly, it looked bad even for the first 2 seconds :P not that i have a better invention to offer, of course!

What's your opinion about new look?

bresando

Not much has changed (99% of the stuff is unchanged, mostly a restyling), but the few new things are nice. I like it.

Recent Qf6-game.

Did you play in the Dutch correspondence championship in 1994?  That guy probably wishes he HADN'T invented it, considering how well Black does in the line.

On the plus side, although you may not have invented bovine fecal matter, you are doing your best to perfect it.

Best answer, thompson! :)
