Saving Opening Repertoire?

Sort:
Avatar of KeSetoKaiba

I feel like I'm getting closer to the point where I might want to more formally save my opening repertoire and variations I'm familiar with in some sort of section, or database. What is the best way to do this and can I save it to a Flashdrive when done (or similar)?

I know some people save their opening repertoire as a study, or series of studies, on other sites (especially one we won't mention that begins with "L" and ends in ".org") and I also know that chess.com "library" or "openings" sections (partly in beta testing currently) might have something similar in the near future, but I feel like I'm going about this the wrong way. Where do chess grandmasters save their repertoires and annotations? Is it just a bunch of annotated pgn files? Is there some database-like function they can purchase? Are there ways to filter a search on positions? (and so on)

Thanks for pointing me in the correct direction everyone happy.png

You could use it as a study, but I have yet to save mine anywhere

It's all in my head

Yeah. Mine is all in my head too. I know many lines and theory 15+ moves deep though and so maybe I should consider saving it somewhere.

Interesting. What are the benefits of using that? Or is it like l******.org with the studies?

What is wrong with saying lichess. It is actually pretty cool.

chess.com tos has a policy against advertising other chess sites in the public forums (even though commenting it in private messages or clubs on chess.com is allowed).

To prevent mods from locking threads, people avoid mentioning competing chess sites by name...

chess.com staff, please don't lock my thread...just trying to get some decent responses here grin.png

I just memorize my opening repertoire, you could probably save some pgn files with annotations

Yes, but without great organization or search filters: I'm worried about how huge my "repertoire" collection of pgn files would be.

Also, organization isn't so simple due to move order differences and transpositions...

I think you could like copy and paste the pgn onto a word document and save it there. then put it back into the pgn reader whenever you need it. just an idea

So it gets locked just because I said my opinion on an other site? That is a bunch of bull crap.

sort of, but I'm actually okay with the chess.com tos; they aren't against mentioning other sites - just advertising them in the public threads and I think this is reasonable. Just mentioning a competing site and the trolls seem to flock though, so usually threads are locked not too long after sad.png

I'm liking this idea so far xD

I also like the idea of studies on another (unnamed) chess site, but I feel like organization might be a problem and I want to be systematic about the process if I do decide to save an opening repertoire one day.

yeah im gonna start doing that too. thought it up on the spot lmao
