Is a setup with d4 and c4 more dangerous for Black?

So I saw on youtube that IM John Bartholomew advocates the 3... Qd8 line. Two examples:

It seems Black gets nice, solid positions in those lines. Are there any drawbacks or reasons not to play this line? Are there critical lines that can get Black into trouble?
