Why in the scotch game, in Steinitz Variation, white plays 8.bxc3 (I’d rather play Nxc3) and black plays 8.Kd8 (I’d rather play Qxg7). Thank you for your answers.
if you play Nxc3 you are pretty much lost because Black has a clean extra pawn and Kd8 is forced to avoid a fork on c7. You have to play actively if you don't want to lose against the Steinitz and you just can't chicken out on doubled pawns
