Should I play the najdorf?

I'm 1700. I have experience with the sicilian. I started playing it at 1200 and stopped at around 1500. The najdorf looks easy in a way and fun. I have a lot of time to so I can study it. Should I at least give it a try?

You can try to learn the themes of the e5 Najdorf (6. Be2 e5, 6. f4 e5, 6. Be3 e5, 6. g3 e5, even 6. h3 e5), that won't be time wasted anyway (e6 Najdorf is way too hard even at +2000). But you will also have to learn a lot of concrete lines after 6. Bc4 and 6. Bg5 just to survive (and there are so many that when you eventually get them you have forgotten already), that's the main problem.

Search for Najdorf games played by Bobby Fischer.........also search for Najdorf and poisoned pawn variation.............there is much strategy and underlying tactics to acquaint yourself with. Good luck !
