Should we play more openings?

You should be banned from chess.com for aborting every time you face 1...d4. That's abusing the system. You start a game, you agree to play the game, and if you get Black, you agree to play regardless of whether White plays a3, a4, b3, b4, c3, c4, d3, d4, e3, e4, f3, f4, g3, g4, h3, h4, Na3, Nc3, Nf3, or Nh3.
So to answer your question - Yes, you should respond to 1.d4 and not abort or go find a different game to play! They need to remove the abort button. You refuse to play because he or she didn't play 1.e4? You should be forced to RESIGN!
ONLY SORE LOSERS ABORT!

This is the most pathetic thing I've ever heard. Why would you abort if you face an unknown move? There are 20 possible opening moves, and your plan is to abort after 19 of them?

True.
I agree.

Again, I agree. But you(@ThrillerFan) worded it better than @magipi.

I agree with the sentiment others have expressed, but I will attempt to answer his question since it's sort of interesting...
Yes, you should play something other than e4. The move e4 is by far the most predictable move in the game. I've played most openings as white, and I can tell you there is no opening where you will encounter as staunch resistance as in e4. It's obvious why - when you're playing the move your opponent faces almost every game you can expect him to play well.
Why 60% of people have not figured this out is beyond me. It's quite easy to tell just by doing a small amount of testing. Maybe people are just afraid to deviate what they perceive as the "approved" way to play. Or maybe they just never thought about the opening. Who knows...
I think you can make an argument for playing e4 in a tournament setting, but I don't see why you would play it in an online setting.
You could try designing an e4 repertoire that moves into unexplored territory early on, but this is very difficult to do well against the sicilian / french / e4e5, and at this point... you have to ask why you're not just playing another 1st move.
Based on your responses I'd say that you should play d4. It's good to know e4 and d4 before deviating too much, anyway.
