Sicilian Defense: Closed Variation

Closed Sicilian gives Black an easy game. This conversation is somehow in Hot Topics. This post is completely incoherent.

Closed sicilian is a very good opening.
There are various plans for either side, it is very instructive and educational.
It also gives u a kind of repertoire against english with 1.c4 e5 and u will try the same set up.
I don't know what u want, if u want informations, or just share your enthusiasm about it.
Anyway, those telling it gives black an easy game are really impetuous.
If it is so easy for black, why Spassky championned it with great results (when he was world champion...), Carlsen sometimes play it with great results too, Short regularly plays it despite being an expert on open sicilians, and many GM use it...

Whenever someone is playing the Sicilian I'm resigning without too much thought. There's no good answer to it. Everything else is bullsh*.

You can always go on the internet and find ways to defend against it.

Very good point by IM poucin. Yes, I didn't really think that black had an easy game after that was a good answer.

There are 5 games in which Spassky played Closed Sicilian , 3 on 1969 and 2 on 1970.These games are from a Moscow tournament that is not in databases as it didn't agree with FIDE requirements(the case with a lot of Soviet tournaments that eventually stayed out of the databases). There is a soviet booklet about Closed Sicilian written at 1973 by Balashov(he was Spassky's second) and Lutikov with 53 games at the end that contain all these games plus many more that are not in databases(Balashov's games most of them).Surprisingly Spassky stopped playing Closed Sicilian at 1971 and started again at 1976 although it is possible that he used Closed Sicilian in other Soviet tournaments that are not in databases.
But how many times Spassky used Closed Sicilian during 1969-1972 is hardly the point.
The point is that he was one of the experts and played Closed Sicilian in important games(7 times in candidate matches doing 5 wins and 2 draws , 3 of his wins were against the Sicilian expert and one of the best players of all times, Efim Geller). All these that say that Black has an easy game in Closed Sicilian obviously don't understand a lot.
"The Closed Sicilian is not an especially good opening, which is pretty much the case for most openings that almost no top players play on a regular basis TODAY. What people did 50 years ago is irrelevant. That's not to say that someone like Short, or Adams won't trot it out for a single game here and there, but almost no one uses it as their exclusive answer to the Sicilian, which generally means it's not very good.
If top players aren't playing it, it's usually not good. Sometimes there will be exceptions, but they are rare and you'd need good evidence to back it up. Honestly if I know someone is playing the Closed Sicilian, I can pick one of probably 5-6 lines, each of which I can learn in probably 15 minutes, and expect to get a fully playable position without much difficulty." - IM Greg Shahade (2012)
I love sicilian openings. I have watched many players open up with that.
