Sicilian Defense is Positional in Nature

I don’t know why people associate it with craziness and fireworks. Yes, games often become sharp, but that’s only because White chooses to force matters by playing the open Sicilian. The original idea of the Sicilian is that Black aims to keep two central pawns, making it an ambitious opening that creates strategic imbalances. You need to be a strong positional player to handle it properly. I dont recommend it to beginners.

Sicilian is my prefered answer to .

I would say its character depends on the variation. The Open Sicilian is very active and causes many action in and around the center, but the Closed Sicilian isn very positional.

If I am White and have 1. e4 c5 on the board, I always go fpr the Open Sicilian, but that is just my personal preference. I prefer to be active instead of passive.
