Sicilian Dragodorf= Sicilian Dragon+Sicilian Najdorf

Dragodorf employs attacking ideas of

1) Dragon 1. e4 c5, 2.Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6

"Dark square bishop in dragon is the pride of Black's postion and white often tries to exchange it early in the games. "

2) Najdorf 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6

"Black attempts a minority attack on queen side while trying to undermine white's e4 pawn in the centre"

Sicilian Dragodorf

I will keep on adding different variations and analysis in coming days.

Nice.  Always heard of it as the "dragondorf".  I know there's a fresh video series here that uses "drago", but I don't get it.  Names should help you remember the variation, not obscure the origins.  Maybe it's something really clever I'm missing.  My rant of the day...Smile

You have your move order wrong.

The Reason they call it DragonDorf is becuase you use the Najdorf move order than try and tranpose into the Sicilian Dragon in much more favorable circumstance's.

The reason why you do this is becuase in the Sicilian Dragon move order white will try and play the YugoSlav Attack with Be3,f3, and 0-0-0  etc.

Which can be very vicious and usually favor's white side. So what Sicilian Dragon players have done is they have played the Najdorf move order which goes like:

Najdorf 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6

The difference is that in the Najdorf usually the Yugoslav attack or as it is known as English Attack against the Najdorf isn't as deadly as the Yugoslav attack is against the Sicilian dragon. So if your opponents try to play for that set up the Najdorf is ok to handle that line.Which is why many white players will not play Be3 against the Najdorf instead their main weapon of choice against the Najdorf is Bg5 line's most time's.

Which means if they go for a Bg5 type of line their set up will not revolve so much on a king side pawn storm  which means you can transpose back into a Sicilian Dragon.

My personal opinion is the Sicilian Dragon usually can handle any line other than the YugoSlav Attack so try to get it so you can play the Sicilian dragon with out them playing that line. You should be ok if you do that.

The only downside of this is. you will have to learn how to play the Sicilian Najdorf as well lol. If your opponen't doesn't play Bg5 their are other lines they can play for example Be3 line's, Bc4 line's, f4 line's, and Be2 line's

If they play Be3 or Bc4 their is a possiblity they can tranpose into a Yugoslav Attack so you will probably have to stick with a Najdorf against those.

If they play Bg5 or f4 you probably could get away with going into a Sicilian Dragon.

If they play Be2 I guess that line is a little bit of a gamble. Bishop isn't very nicely played their I don't think so maybe a Sicilian Dragon tranposition would be ok as well.

I honestly don't know but its something to think about.

I have a habit of rereading forums which I have  talked in every once and a while.

The reason I do this is because I believe as a person gains more knowledge in chess they often pick up things they did not see the first time or they learn how they were wrong in the past.

Today I clicked on this forum to reread it.

7 months ago I did post #3 and I was wrong.

Your move order is not wrong.

I simply lacked the knowledge at that time.

As it turns out the move order you gave is correct.

The idea black has in the Dragondorf is to delay castling.

White in the Yugoslav Attack often attacks on the king side.

However, the idea with the Dragondorf is to keep the black king in the center for a while and begin counter play on the queen side.

Thus, What ends up happening is black attacks queen side were the white king is and white attacks king side yet the black king is in the center.

It often gives black extra time to be successful.

I believe white players have come to realize what black is doing in this line.

Which is to say I believe white players have stopped playing 9.0-0-0.

I am sorry for giving you bad information on post #3.

I gave it to the best of my ability at that time.

As it turns out I was wrong.

Hopefully this new information I give you here today can help shine some more light on this line.
