I did study some theory on Sicilian dragon but I feel more comfortable with Caro and french

It makes absolutely no difference what opening you choose! Many people are under the illusion that the choice of an opening is critical, or that the simply must find the opening that matches there "style."  This is complete nonsense. Your results will depend entirely on how well play, your tactical alertness, strong nerves, and general chess strength. Which opening you choose is almost entirely irrelevant

Ok now you can't say opening doesn't have any relation with the game if there isn't any difference why don't grandmasters play ware opening or polish opening and all in important games? Can't they win with any opening as you said? The answer is no you can't just play something and expect to win the game. Even though it doesn't matter a lot in lower levels it doesn't mean it's the same with higher levels and it's not like there's a style you said which i can never refute because you have to know what you mean by "style" and you are saying that all the rules of chess that is control the center develop the pieces are all useless?? sicilian, obviously. dont you know how bad the carokann is!???

Do you know how popular the caro kann is among grandmasters?

Sack_o_Potatoes

It's really popular

Sack_o_Potatoes

After 1. e4 caro kann is the 4th most popular choice

ricorat

Caro is what I play against 1.e4 so ofc I’ll chose it! Sicilian is fun looking though

"The answer is no you can't just play something and expect to win the game. "

Sure you can! Any respected opening will work fine below GM level.

I think you're missing the point of the term "respected."  There are many good openings, any one of which would be fine. The Bongcloud is not one of them!

I mentioned you can't play "anything" ok? And you said you can and now saying it's respected and not all then why you said ""sure you can""?

Let us see if Carlsen and Nepo and their teams of grandmasters and engines chose Sicilian or Caro-Kann (or French, or Ruy Lopez, or Petrov) in their upcoming World Championship match. I expect Sicilian.

I think that if you know how to play the karokan you can win in easy everyone but the Sicilian is better than the Karo kan
adityasaxena4

Caro-Kann is better than Sicilian as there are many different ways to deviate and not go in deep into opening theory e.g. e4 c6 d4 Nf6, Caro-Kann Defence: Masi Variation

e.g. e4 c6 d4 f5, Caro-Kann Defence: Massachusetts Defence

e.g. e4 c6 d4 g6, Modern Defence: Gurgendize Variation

the Caro-Kann Defence: Masi Variation can also transpose into an Alekhine Defence: Modern Variation 4.c6
