why not play 3.Qxd4 after 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4, if Nc6 then Qa4.

People just don't like to develop like that because they follow current trends, and the trend in that line is not to develop your queen.  The best way to learn is to try it a few times, and then see what you think!

game explorer says after 4. Qa4, black wins 73% of the games.  I suppose the reasoning is that white has lost a central pawn majority, has no minor pieces developed, and has a queen that can get pushed around the middle while black develops.

 1 e4 c5 2 d5 cxd 3 Qd4 nc6 4 Bb5??? What are you getting for your Queen?

4 Qa4 Qa5+ equalizes immediately. 5 QxQ NxQ 6 Bd2 Nc6 and Black has the extra center pawn. With Queens off, good luck getting anywhere. White should be playing to win.

But after 3.Qd4 Nc6 4.Qa4 Nf6 then i think 5.Bg5 is better
