Simple Refutation of the Fritz Gambit

Sort:
asvpcurtis

no 5...Qc8 like a boss and you don't have to give up a pawn

asvpcurtis

but the idea is similar to the one in the cambridge springs

Except 6.Nc3 and you lose a pawn anyways.

It's not really better for black, though. It's pretty much even:

You must be joking. White is in deep trouble due to the unlucky position of his queen, and multiple pawn structure liabilities.

Stats aren't always indicative, but in my database white has scored 3.5 out of 19 from that position- not a perfect achievement, for sure.

Here is a safer and better refutation:

Pop Quiz : Without referring to any outside soucre, how do you answer 4.cd cd 5.Qb3? (nobody else help him)

took me forever to find that don't judge lol

Have I not showed you this trap before...

I will show you the entire line:

And what's the average rating of the opposition?

Yereslov

So even accepting the gambit is worse for white...

That kind of defeats the point. Right?

You can include an IM, rated 2480, between the white victims.

The overall average can't be very high, since the Grob is played almost exclusively by woodpushers.

Another trap:

Claude Bloodgood was an expert with this opening, and he was no woodpusher.

For a time he was the strongest player in the U.S.

As with most of your posts, all I can say is "I really hope you're trolling."

That variation is even worse.

Well, second strongest. That is until he overpowered a guard and escaped prison.

@ Am643360_2: Care to say what you will play after 7...Nc5 or 7...Be6?

White's position is swiss cheese.

Black may also play 3...d4!? 4.Bxb7 Nd7 etc, when he is also fine, but I see no reason sacrificing the exchange- white is simply worse after 3...c6.

You are right, but isn't it nice to know that even if the gambit is accepted black is better off?

Do you play this line Yereslov? I would not recommend it.

I would, considering black is better.

I mean consider how insulted the opponent would be. He has a rook, but nowhere to go.

I like the psychological factor.

Interesting. Apparently that line scores even worse with engine analysis.

My line has something like 0.25+.

Yours is 0.00-0.07- for white.

Well, I think it depends. Yes, black has huge development and a psychological factor, but it is still a little tricky.

Yea, the computer's .25 doesn't fase me. I just like my line a little better for 2 reasons.

1. I learned it first ( I never learned dxc4). :P

2. It takes the c3 square for the night in return for a pawn (that you did not take.)

So that variation is wrong... Is this accurate?

4...Qd7?! is pointless. Just capture the pawn. I know you are worried about the b pawn, but it is no real threat.

4...cxd4 is better for black.

I'm assuming you mean dxc4? That is worse. (Even though Qd7

is  slightly inferior to the main line.) Not only does the b pawn hang, but the c pawn also.

Just let Pfren school you.

UrsaWarrior

Is my opponent using fritz. He used that against me. Sadly I'm ahead one pawn just play 4...Qc7 and play normally Laughing
