Petrov's defense
Solid e4 openings

The Petrov is not drawish at your nor my level, there is plenty of play left in the position, and there is plenty of possibilities for both players to outplay each other.
Solid but not drawish is tattooed on the CK. What don't you like about it that's forcing the change?
Incidentally, I like the Petroff suggestion a lot. You can play the open games with 2...Nc6 solidly, as well. Hard to force solid play in the 2 knights as black, but you can certainly do so with 3...Bc4, or the Hungarian 3...Be7. The Ruy has tons of solid lines. The modern KGA with d5, Capablanca's against the Danish, an early g6 against the center game. What am I forgetting? The Scotch? I'm not up on my Scotch lines, but there's got to be something. I don't think early Nc6 lines are blazing.
I'm looking at creating a opening repertoire. I play fairly conservatively but I always look for tactics. I'm play the caro kann against e4 often and I'm looking for more solid openings against e4. But one problem I have is i hate the french, i don't mind playing a semi cramped position but i don't like the french. any suggestions and please add the openings most popular variations.
Thanks,
Calwizz.
First of all stop being a chicken and play to dominate and win rather than saving your ass. You will never go beyond 1200 if you start worrying about openings when you have no idea in a middlegame and endgame.

Look for ways to win with solid play is ok.
