Strange Opening

Recently a friend played this against me. Is there a better way to play against this? Is it a reliable opening?

Usually after he takes my pawn with his knight i take his pawn with the bishop with check and then retake the knight.  Your way is perfectly playable as well.  My personal opinion both variations benefit white.

Actually the line shown favors black, black has the bishop pair in an open position and has caught up in development. Best line for white is 4.Bb5, but after 4.Bc4 Nxe4 5.Nxe4 d5 6.Bd3 dxe4 7. Bxe4, is a little better for white, since he keeps both bishops, but black has still at least equalized.

i think 5.Bxf7+ is better because black can't castle and it's king is unsafe. 5...Kxf7 6.Nxe4 and i think white is better.

I believe it's called the Knight's Trick. The first time i saw it was in a blitz game against a master so i think it's reliable enough. I've played it myself and haven't found any noticeable faults with it either.
