I am interested if the opening study suits my choice.
study groups
Generally, discussions about opening lines are held in this forum. Just start a topic about the variation that interests you.
I know that... I was just wondering if there were specialized groups like... "The Nimzo-Indian group", "The KID group", "The Najdorf group" or things like that... where people would only discuss very specific topics (and therefore, if they are really interested, more carefully monitor the discussion threads) .., follow and analyze the new GM games, etc.
when someone posts here it can be about anything and everything and it's mostly some obscure lines, not in-depth preparation. This is also a nice forum, of course, I was just wondering if some more dedicated groups exist.
There are at least some groups with a particular opening focus, although I don't know if any are *exactly* what you describe.
I use the Sicilian a lot, so I recently joined a Sicilian group.
I bet if there's not already a group devoted to your favorite opening, you could start a tournament using only that opening and find a few people willing to start one up with you.
I did enjoy playing the thematic tournaments while I was still playing correspondence chess, a few years back, which was before I came to chess.com (that was at schemingmind.com, a very cool chess place for that sort of thing) ... but not now... I prefer to do some studying of some annotated games and then try out the lines in blitz a couple of times - it's a quicker studying method.
Actually, first I meant to use the blog for stirring up some discussion... but I somehow get the impression that blogs don't usually get many comments or live discussions unless it's an article from some of the GMs on the site.. the rest of the blogs get 3-4 comments usually and not many views either :/ I've posted some games that I've played in a tournament recently, but not a single comment yet, so that's when I figured out that forums are probably a better place for discussing things :)
I've joined a coupole of opening groups for that very reason but alot jsut aren't active. you could post something and no one will answer or even talk about it. Some occasional nice game, good play etc... but nothing that really helps the furthur developemnt my suggestion is start a e-mail group and send e-mails regarding analysis of a line book recommendations etc...with others who want the same thing from the team work and go about things that way.
many people are afraid to get trolled around when they answer. i even yesterday saw a guy post a najdorfgame he was proud of. one of the comments he got to the game was something like"move x wins a piece. are you still proud of your game?"
Well, trolling in online discussions is something that can't be helped, though at least in groups (instead of big open forums) you always have the option of excluding bothersome people.
I'm trying to redesign my opening rep, so I do play many different things on different occasions, but this is the basis of what I play now:
Black:
on e4:
-before: CK or Dragon -now: Sveshnikov or O'Kelly (trying also to squeeze in the Kan for surprise value).. though I'm not gonna abandon CK completely, I know it too well..
on d4:
-before: Benoni or Albin in blitz -now: Nimzo-Indian or Lasker or Benko
with White I am an e4 player
on e5: Scotch, Exchange Ruy, closed Italian
on c5: before I went with Nc3, now I play Nf3 and later either d4 or Bb5 (Rossolimo, Moscow) ... also the Westerinen.. in blitz Smith-Morra sometimes
as for all the other openings, it would be too much information to include, but I guess this is the outline of the major stuff... I am quite good in tactics and I love complicating things, but only after I've established a strategically sound position..
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but are there any active study groups here on chess.com dedicated to certain specific openings, where players can post lines/games and discuss?
I've taken a quick glance at the groups/teams list (as I haven't really explored that part of the website yet) - but I see it's mostly teams and some general groups.
I am currently working on my opening repertoire, learning some new stuff, so I'd appreciate if you could point me to some such groups here (if they exist and if there is enough discussion going on to make it worthwhile)
Thanks.
