Switching from e4 to d4

Hello, I have played chess for nearly a decade always playing e4. I would like to switch to d4. Has anyone ever done this comfortably? What do I need to do?

I do really enjoy the tromposky opening as white against the Nf6.

I just don't know what to play for the others.

I switched from 1e4 to 1d4 a few years ago to avoid the Sicilian (and take it up as black), then switched from 1d4 to 1c4 to avoid the Nimzo (and take it up as black).

I found that the Nimzo was hard to find a good  line against as white - good luck with that !

(Edit. sorry didn't read your second post. I used the Tromp as a migratory device before going on to do a little work agains the Indian defences.  As black I like e6 against the Bg5 idea.)

I switched from e4 to d4 like a month ago and so far it's been a blast, positional play is one of my strengths and the d4 games tend to be more positional as opposed to the more open e4. The 13-14 years before I exclusively played e4. I don't mind and am able to learn a lot of theory though, so that made the switch rather easy for me.

As a side note, I play Sicilian with black, and eventhough I was never really afraid of playing against the Sicilian as white my results weren't awesome.

A lazy and easy way is to play 1.d4, 2.e3 and 3.c4 against most things.

Well, I don't think that is completely relevant. I'm not aiming to be a top GM. Just a master. If it is acceptable at the 2300 level then it's alright with me.

I just did that about 4-5 months ago.

I recommend "A Strategic Chess Opening Repertoire for White" by Watson.

.

Spassky did exactly that. Took his foundering career, and propelled him to become World Champion.

(Your results may vary)

But swtching made him a more rounded player. Made him a positional threat, in addition to his tactical abilities he already had. Also made it harder for his opponents to prepare for him. Because you needed to be ready for both.

Hmmm, time for an example of the "positional" 1. d4

If you enjoy boring "positional" games like this, then please step away from the tactical and exciting Berlin and Petroff variations of 1.e4 and switch over to something a little easier :).
