No, it's because all the strong e5/c5/c6 players have better things to do with their time than do a bunch of daily games to defend "their" opening 
Here are 3 games I had over the weekend (OTB) with the French Defense.
One thing to note is Black's 8th move in the first one is pre-mature.
So I'm officially switching to Team e5 to balance the rosters a bit. Was hoping to try something against e5, but they clearly needed a stronger roster. I'll start the first match threads shortly.
Dsmith, you have done a lot for us. Not just team french, but everyone interested in this team tournament concept. I don't think of this as losing you, but as getting a chance to play against you some time soon. Good chess!
Ivan, welcome aboard. You clearly have the highest rating in Daily, so I think it's best to slot you in at top board. Patrick (Thriller Fan) has a lower daily rating than I have, but his real life rating is much higher than mine. Plus he has a much deeper knowledge of opening theory, so I have no qualms about putting him ahead of me. That leaves me on third board, Chamo2074 on fourth, roughraff, DaBabyBurner, then theoof11. We have got a strong team!
