It has a mush longer history. In last century it was played regulary in my chess club by @simonreusch who preferred the move order 2.Nc3 d5 3.Nf3 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Nf6 5.Neg5 h6 6.Nxf7. We analyzed it alot these days.
The Alien Gambitš½
This is good only for blitz- either with 2.d4 or 2.Nf3 (as in #2).
No real compensation for the knight.
Most people are saying not to play the Alien in Rapid. Isn't it obvious that mostly every trap will leave you destroyed if the opponent is smart and not trading every 10 secs
It's a sick opening, but never really tried it since its not sustainable in longer time controls. I like to keep my repertoire uniform, irrespective of the time control.
Funnily enough my Caro-Kann repertoire was once comprised of offering a knight on the exact same square for much lower risk and much higher reward. The position below is M6.
The positions below are the only 3 evaluated to be worse than equal for White, but all three sit at a comfortable -0.3 and leave White very playable positions while Black typically has to play rather unintuitive moves to keep the advantage:
I played this in blitz and rapid countless times against opponents rated 1700-2100 and never once did someone play a refutation line. Occassionally they'd play one of the lesser lines which offer Black equality, but more often than not I'd come away with a massive advantage out of the opening or simply a win. Nowadays I play the Endgame Offer with 3. dxe4 though as I'm attempting to become a better positional and endgame player.
I play it sometimes and I can win because of shock value, and because its a very different position than what caro-kann users are used to.
Caro-Kann Defense:Alien Gambit
