Man these old forums of mine from when I was 1600 keep getting bumped

I came up with what I thought was a completely original piece sac right in the opening of the QGD Chigorin.

... then after the game, a bit of research showed that GM Ivanchuk had played this same move in a simultaneous display several years earlier.

This is a quite deep one but I've been able to play it a few times and I love it to death:

Move 12. book knight sacrifice in the most tactically sharp opening that exists. Good luck navigating this without the engine, it's a stunner. In fact the main line sacs another full piece later on. What's so compelling is that, unlike most opening sacrifices that occur before the opponent gets their feet off the ground, Black is almost completely developed with comfortably active pieces across the board.

Here's a sample slight inaccuracy from Black with sidelines to show just how many ideas there are:

Bear in mind that this comes from one inaccuracy and Black is digging through this mound of tactics for just a draw in the end, and I didn't even highlight all of the threats in the line. It's just killer.

Most of the answers given are pure garbage! Muzio? Halloween? Cochrane? Utter C**p!

You want a legitimate piece sacrifice? I don't play the opening, so don't ask me for lines. All that I know is there is a well known line in the 6.Bg5 Najdorf where White sacrifices a Knight on d5 on what I believe is move 14 if memory serves me right.

Go ask a Najdorf player for specifics. I avoid it at all cost as a French player!

No. I know for a fact that white had domination of c6. I think, now digging out 7 ways to smash the Sicilian, that it was this one, and move 14 is where White plays Nc6.

lol this is basically the exact same line he said, it effectively transposes if black plays Kd8 after emu's sac- the only difference is that Black has wasted a tempo on b4 in your version.

This game was played in Moscow in 1947. I believe Rusakov and Verlinsky were Soviet IMs. Black sacs a knight on move seven, then sacs his queen on move 9. Then white resigns one move later!

I will give a try here with a chess miniature, I hope it'll work this time.

Just click on the little chess board on the top left. Then you can either enter the moves of the game, or copy and paste it from the analysis screen.
