1. e4 e5, 2. Nf3 Nc6 can lead into the following
3. d4: The Scotch Game, which typically is not boring as the tension in the center breaks fast and the players scramble to assert control.
3 Bb5: The Ruy Lopez or Spanish Game
3: Bc4: The Italian Game, which leads into the very sharp and exciting Guioco Piano with 3 ... Bc5 or the Two Knights Defence with 3 ... Nf6
3: Nc3 angles toward a Four Knights, which is a bit more symmetrical, drawish, and complicated without being terribly exciting in general, in my opinion.

A rather weak one (positionally at least) for White. It looks to me like Black is running the show.

Not every series of moves has an opening name. The openings that have names make sense and arent junk moves or blunders.

The moves 1.e3 e5 lead to the well known Van 't Kruijs opening.
Possible variations are:
The Bouncing Bishop 1.e3 e5 2.Bc4 b5 3.Bb3 (lots op white poison in it)
The Amsterdam attack 1.e3 e5 2.c4 d6 3.Nc3 Nc6 4.b3 Nf6 (dutch defense variation with the wrong colours)
The Akahi Variation 1.e3 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.f4 Nxf4 4.Nf3 (a poisoned pawn offer)
Your move 2.c3 it's weak because offers no compensation for white. Though I'd say keeptrying new things. That's the right way to learn.

This is my favorite opening. I've won like 12324324 games with it.
The first diagram is the Van 't Kruijs opening, but is in some unheard-of variation.
The second one is the modern opening in again some weird variation.

What is the oepning called when it is a very boring - E4, E5, NF3, NC6 etc... does it depend on the next few moves??????
