Magnus played the strategy well. His C3 move instead of book C4 was game changing to those that follow this great opening theory. He legitimised the modern version which was a game changer. In the exchange variation exchange the knight with your bishop at exactly the right time then populate the black squares with your white pawns. But C3 instead of C4…… thank you Magnus. Just brilliant

C4,D4 and E4 . After these moves the chess does not play until almost the middle game. Those that study the theory inside out, back to front begin the chess there as shown in the short form game.

After many moves on auto pilot there is a pause…… that’s when the chess starts.
