The Computer Analysis software at Chess.com indicating mistakes in the opening?

Hi, I've played more than a few games on this site and I've got some of them analysed afterwards.
The odd thing is that it seems like the engine are labelling any other black moves than e5 or d5 as mistakes.
I mean if you play the French Defense or Caro-Kann or whatever your down 0,50 from the 1st move.
Does any of you know if its true?
Is the only appropriate way to defend by Black to play e5 or d5?
If that's so, why on earth does The very best play these defences?
