The Grand Prix is refuted

Sorry kids, time to go back to the Closed Sicilian or Rossolimo.

urk
8. Qe5 Rg8 and it's a messy position with chances for both sides. Interesting

I had great results with the Grand Prix in tournaments but I would never play that trash again. Too hard to handle.
BronsteinPawn

LOL. Why do you call the Grand Prix trash?
Yeah, 8.Qe5 Rg8 and stuff is just messy. Tons of tactics.

Im gonna play that line lol.

An nice MAD win by Shirov that shows the dangers of this stuff.

BronsteinPawn

I think Shirov just made a big mess out of it. I like 11...Be6 followed by a6-Qc7 when the position is easier to play than in that g5 madness.

urk
I think that approach might be too slow. Black wants to liberate his rook with ...g5! pronto.
BronsteinPawn

g5 is too sharp for my taste, the kingside attack will come later.

Im not Shirov and the time control is 30+30, if it was 90+45 I would probably go for g5. But I dont have time on my club. People fear being 4 hours on the board, they are sissies!

BronsteinPawn

My last game when I hung my knight and won with great endgame technique lasted 3 hours so clearly if someone woodpushes the game will not last an hour as they seem to believe.

BronsteinPawn

I think this is the best line for White:

urk
Ok, but Shirov knows where your king lives and he's still going to play ...h6 and ...g5.
LogoCzar

*sigh*

I thought you said you were going to stop trolling?

LogoCzar

Or was the title just for clickbait?

BronsteinPawn

11...Qd6 is a horrible move and 12...Qxf4 ignores White's attack on c5.

11...Bg4 is better!

I had already seen that game.

BronsteinPawn

Im studying the line, not too much games from it.

That Bxc6 stuff is old, Im not gonna hang my c5-pawn!

LogoCzar

White was no worse out of the opening. I prefer his position, and he had very playable alternatives to Qe5.

BronsteinPawn

I said I was gonna study the Grand Prix, it took a black pairing to do it LOL!

BronsteinPawn

Black is 100% fine, I was expecting more from the Grand Prix.

BronsteinPawn

Once you go troll you never go back.

BronsteinPawn

Equality!

LogoCzar

Did you pay attention: 6.exd5 exd5 then 7.Qe2, not 6.Qe2.

The point of 7.Qe2 is to pin the knight and renew the positional threat of Bxc6+

You found equality (I assume you did anyways) in a line that wasn't my line!

BronsteinPawn

Yes! The position at first looks super suspicious for Black, it loosk like he is just gonna hang c5 but that fianchettoed bishop is just a freaking monster. Black has resources to defend d4. He just needs to know them.
