The Kopec?!?

This is the Kopec system by Master Danny Kopec. Anyone have insights on this? I just watched a video about it like 10 mins ago and it seems to be an interesting opening but not played often by masters.

Just want to know if this is worth learning, thanks!!Laughing

If it interests you, give it a try in some 15 0 games and see what happens.

can you give us some lines from the video? what exactly does it do? apart from block the d pawn and confuse your opponent?

Yes it is fine.  Leads to Lopez-like middlegames after the Bishop goes back to c2 and White plays d3 or d4.

Although what you have shown is not the Kopec system.  3.c3 Nf6 4.Bd3 is the Kopec system.  (There is also the refined Kopec system 3.c3 Nf6 4.h3 Nc6 and only now 5.Bd3 - this rules out a quick ..Bg4.)

It was something like this. But there are also many other lines but mostly the structure ends up with this position.

I see, and no it's not interesting. Maybe create a few smiles from your opponents who will just develope their positions.

I bought Kopecs pawn structure videos (4 of them, I highly recommend them) & when he sent them he sent along with them a hand written card wishing me luck in my studies, thanks for buying, etc. & that he would be in the area soon. Also, an autographed book of his. It was cool, he's really nice. His pawn structure lessons are very good & very important fundamentals to learn.

I have lost a little faith after this game:

Black had the advantage after 19...Rc8, but he played a few bad moves, and lost.
