The ULTIMATE fried liver defense

I must play the Max Lange next time.

xartesit03

yeah yeah fine "traxler defense" as whoever that was must insist.

xartesit03

its the "knight attack" that is being defended

I just don’t play Bc4 on my third move and avoid it entirely.

Really? That is not current GM practice. The Ruy Lopez is not as popular as it was, because they mostly all play the Berlin and leave the Ruy Bishop to sit and knit.

Also, I doubt if you never play 3. Bc4, as it is a perfectly goood move, and the Fried Liver ceases to sizzle after a few deft moves. What GM would play it at long time control?

poucin

u can play 3.Bc4 and then decide to go for d3, like most GM do...

Omg tysm bro this helped me SO much

learningtoplayagain26

well tbh i just went and fried liver him myself XD

Toad1258

that is the traxler. I played it but I lost games because I didn't know what to do if they did not accept the bishop sacrifice so I lost games and stopped playing it

i saw this line on a forum somewhere

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 Bc5 5. Nxf7 Bxf2+ 6. Kxf2 Nxe4+ 7. Kg1

after e4 e5 nf3 nc6 bc4 nf6 ng5 d5 exd5 nxd5 you don't take on f7, you move the queen to h5
