Cause the competition is mostly for fun, and also because not many people actually put strategies into the openings. For me, Aesthetics is also how good the position seems, so if one person is down a rook, but has a cool position, I'll eliminate the opening, but if they're down 1-2 pawns and have a strong lead in development/other things I'll keep it in. I didn't know what to call it, so I just put aesthetics.
