Tie in the opening

Imagine this scenario:

You are playing a 9 games tournament and after 8 games you are in a good position. So you are fine with a draw in you last game, specially because right after the end of this tournament you need to travel to play in another city the next day and you want to save energy.

What openings are your best options?

I guess the petrov is a good one but, is there any option with white or with black when they play d4?

At your level, the question is irrelevant.

So... just because you have a higher rating I can't ask questions here?

Diakonia is brutally honest.
Maybe I shouldn't speak for him, but I think his point is that whatever opening you play doesn't matter nearly as much as simply hanging on to your pieces and not making simple mistakes.

Play solidly and you'll do fine.

Play the Petroff Defense if you want but ultimately the game will be decided by mistakes in the middlegame.

Thats not what im saying.  Of course you can ask questions.  My reply to you is at your level you dont need to worry about what opening to play.  It honestly doesnt matter.

You summed it up perfectly.  Feel free to speak for me anytime!

Thanks Urk. That's a good answer.

Now I can understand the point. Explaining to other players that at certain level things works on a different way is a good approach, while trying to feed your ego saying that a question is not relevant is not the better approach. If a question is asked is because is relevant for the one who ask.

Again, thanks Urk. I understood your point.

pretty nonsense advice from diakonia to say not to worry about opening play.  all stages of the game are important.  this advice gives the beginner player that "any moves in the opening are fine because im a beginner and openings dont matter".  just because you are a beginner and it is the opening stage of the game doesnt mean that you can hang pieces and the moves you play in this stage dont matter, because all that really matters is the middle game and even if you lost material in the opening.  I feel like this commonly dolled out piece of advice is given by salty players that dont want others to achieve any of the same things they have.  It is the  same idea as having a boss who tries to keep you at the same position in a company and suppress your ideas because they do not want you to supersede them.

Play the exact same repertoire that got you into a good position during the first 8 games. Chances are these are the openings you know best and will do the least amount of blunders in.

As for achieving the draw, maybe try to play for a slight advantage and when you get it offer a draw to your opponent.
