Trading my bishop for a knight

I don't like playing against knights and I like to fiancheto my king bishop. Can the opening that i played here as white be used with reasonable success? I don't need to concern myself with Championship level play, but I'd rather pursure something else if this is a "dead end".

I'm an average player at best. In the game below I played shedder set to the highest level that my iphone app has. I lost, but I was very pleased with my play. I'd love to hear from any of you with reagrds to the opening that I played here.

Thanks so much!!!

Well as a general rule, d4 openings are going to be closed, which usually advocates trading a bishop for a knight, but here it wasn't that great of a choice though not really a big error. Doing do here immediatly increases the power of black's fianchettoed bishop no longer blicked my the knight and now black is going to put some serious pressure on that diagonal and maybe even the dark squares in general since u lost the main defender of them.

Look into the Trompsky and the Torre attack if you want to swap.  Generally its not the best idea unless there is a specific reason.  Black played poorly.  If you must do this look at:

1. d4 Nf6 2. Bg5 g6 3. Bxf6 ... better for Black I think but playable.  Be prepared for 2 ... Ne4 and 2.... e6

Thanks for the responses!!
