Weirdest Chess Openings
i agree with the cabbage system; its absolutely insane! its ECO code is A00 since it comes from 1. c3
They are not playable. Never played them.
Wait... do the weird openings have to be playable?

They are completely playable
In my opinion, an opening could also be considered "weird" when all sorts of strange and unusual positions can arise from it. Therefore, I think the Nimzo-Larsen Attack is definitely "weird"!

Yes, but for the Ware Opening, Crab Variation, you would require you're opponent to blunder to at least equalize.

Incidentally, the Nimzo-Larsen Attack is "weird" and yet completely sound, although White can't expect to achieve an advantage in every single line.
Depends on your definition of weird. 1. b3 is indeed perfectly sound but the resulting positions are crazy.
But then again, we have to ask if there is a difference (or no difference at all) between weird and crazy/wild.
As far as actually playable openings go, I love the Alekhine's Defense, and it is definitely odd. It violates all the opening principles. As they chase my knight around, I can just see a smirk on some people's faces OTB, as they think "This guy doesn't know what he's doing."
Then the empire strikes back!
Are you guys going to use this WEIRD openings during competition? I got no ideas how to beat guys who play funny.
This forum is all about the weirdest openings you have ever heard of. Some of the tournaments I host are about them, such as "Anti-Fried Liver". Post yours here!
