  • Against Ruy Lopez i play mostly Berlin and sometimes Breyer or Keres
  • Against Italian I play Bc5 and the setup with a6/Ba7 (dont know if it has a name)

If you are afraid of the Fried Liver Attack, then I recommend that you do not play (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6) 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Nxd5.  5...Na5 is much better and safer.

Similar to what Moonie just posted (actually after I started to respond, but got distracted) -

Against the Ruy, the immediate ...a6, followed soon by ....Bc5, ....b5, ...Bb7, and either ....Bb6 or ....Ba7 often gives a very strong position for the two Bishops.  I think that's called the Archangel Defense, but there are variations, of course.  A similar tack also is available against the Italian.  In both, allow White to open up the center - then Black's Bishops have something to say!

Out of the closed Ruy's i like the breyer as well but i want an opening as black with Ruy where there arent so many deviations at the beggining. I think breyer starts at 9... if im not mistaken.

4.Ng5 is played A LOT when your my rating. I dont understand how its not troublesome. Do you opt for the pawn sac or the traxler

The pawn sac OR the Traxler? What is the Traxler if not a pawn sac? Lol

I play 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Na5 6.Bb5+ c6 7.dxc6 bxc6 8.Be2 (8.Bd3 is well-countered by a timely Nd5-f4 while 8.Qf3 is a ridiculous move in my opinion) 8...h6 9.Nf3 e4 10.Ne5 and here either 10...Bc5, 10...Bd6,  or 10...Qd4 should lead to a good game for Black. Database results also heavily favor Black from these positions.

In my experience, as long as I have nothing better than to move a pawn to c3, then I am uncomfortable.  Is it playable?  Sure, but it will be a fight where I have to untangle the mess of my position.  So I think that 10...Bd6 is probably not the most precise since 11.d4 exd3 12.Nxd3 Qc7 13.b3 is my ideal position.

As to 8.Qf3, as long as you avoid 8...h6, then black should be fine with a number of moves, my preference being 8...Be7 which has been proven to be at least equal.

I found the Modern Steinitz a lot of fun but unfortunately every white player i face keeps playing the rather dull(at least for me) Exchange variation.

I usually play the Two Knights and Open Ruy when I play e5. But I've also experimented with the Elephant Gambit and Latvian Gambit that avoid this stuff altogether, while still playing 1. e4 e5.

These days, I mostly play the French, though.

The Zaitsev is a variation for the brave souls. White in the mainline lets his queenside being completely ruined, but he gets a fierce kingside attack in return. Ideal choice if you urgently need a win as Black, but unfortunately there is the well-known early Ng5/Nf3 draw, which can be avoided only by playing some sort of Smyslov variation (which looks slightly better for white).

Not true.  There are other ways to avoid it, even AFTER 9...Bd7 in some cases:

Option 1) Smyslov Variation, as mentioned above (9...h6)
Option 2) An offbeat line mentioned in "The Ruy Lopez for Black", 9...Qd7
Option 3) 9...Re8 intending 10...Bf8 and ...Bb7 later
Option 4) 12...Qd7 after 9...Bb7 10.d4 Re8 11.Ng5 Rf8 12.Nf3
