What is the hardest opening for average players?

Ruy lopez has soooooooooooo much lines that I as a 1800 refuse to study it.
Does this mean you don't play 1...e5 or that you have a move 3 other than the Morphy Variation (a6)?

Idk but i personally see alot of caro variation and alot of immediate mistakes that lead to a better position.

lmao
nimzo and hard to play?
Actually according to the lichess database it kinda is. The fact the catalan has 52% winrate is already a red herring.
Catalan is not nimzo
Nimzowitsch defense or nimzo indian defense?

He must surely be talking about the e4 defense comparing it to Catalan right

after coming out the lab we have determined you have major engine prep and thats all, you are not good without it
Whats wrong with using engine prep???
you wont ever see any real improvement because everyone at your level plays bs bc they are patzers tryna score a quick win

lmao no one refers to the Nimzowitch defense as "nimzo" (it's not nearly as popular as the nimzo).
He's obviously referring to the Nimzo-Indian defense

Well, now you know what not to do. The move Nd4 is not only a wasted tempo but also drops the exchange and wrecks your position. Now that you know that, you can try to make further improvements until you fine tune your Lopez response.

I already fine tuned my ruy lopez!

Modern Benoni.
I got the hang of the Sicilian Najdorf long before I figured out how to play a Benoni properly.

the further from a system, the harder to play. Lines where you must memorize a bunch of concrete replies to stay afloat and with lots of sidelines.
Think dragon sicilian for black or Grunfeld. some weakers player almost take it as a point of pride in being able to play these after excessive hours of prep memorizing every knook and cranny.
