That's a line; I'm not sure who makes official decisions on what certain lines of the Giuoco Piano are called, but that is one of dozens of lines nuanced with moves that don't differ much except with order. So I guess you can call it that if you want, idk

There is no International Federation of Opening Names (FINO) that declare what the "official" mainline is! If you look at grandmaster games you will see that several subtly different plans are frequently played Sometimes White expands on the queen side with a4 and b4, sometimes he works to maneuver a N to f5 and attack the king. When Black plays Be6, White never used to play Bxe6, now it's one of the main ideas. And just because White played an early d3, that doesn't mean he has forgotten about d4!. Go to any database and play over some GM games from the last couple of years and you will see that there are plenty of different plans and mover orders, not just one "official" mainline

Yeah, the e5 line is very common and equalizes straight-away. Also, it is very easy to play for black. Just develop and play f6 at an opportune moment, and white has to struggle to draw.
